In MIXING AND EQUALIZING BASINS, the waste water peaks, the contamination, as well as the pH-value are evened out. The aeration prevents the waste water from rotting and developing unpleasant odors, while at the same time preventing deposits in the basin.
As a side effect, a partial biological degradation of the waste water pollution can be achieved by aeration.
The degradation rate can be up to 40 %. This relieves the downstream municipal sewage treatment plant and usually leads to the discontinuation of the heavy polluter surcharge for waste water charges.
These plants are particularly common in breweries, maltings, the beverage industry and dairies.
